Roy Widener Motor Lines of Morristown

This scholarship was established in memory of the company's founder, Roy Widener.  C.L. Widener and his brother Roy started a local trucking company with only one truck in 1947.  The brothers operated the business in partnership until 1970 when C. L. retired and sold his interest in the business to Roy.  In 1975, the name was changed to Roy Widener Motor Lines and expanded to a thriving business with a terminal in High Point, NC in addition to their Morristown location.  At one time, the company enployed 225 people.  The scholarship was originall intended to assist the employees of Roy Widener and their children.  The Widener family sold the company in 1998 to Ampace Freightlines.
