Friends of Mr. Rex Dockery
This scholarship was established in memory of Rex Dockery. Coach Dockery was the head football coach at East High School for two seasons, 1968-1969, and guided the Hurricanes to the state AAA championship his final year. He played his collegiate football at Tennessee and later served as assistant with the Vols under Bill Battle. Dockery also served as the head coach at Texas Tech before he accepted the head coaching position at Memphis State in 1981. Dockery, along with pilot Glenn Jones, assistant coach Chris Faros and player Charles Greenhill were killed in a plane crash in December 1983, while on their way to the Lawrenceburg Quarterback Club annual banquet where Dockery was to be the guest speaker.
