John Gamble

This scholarship was established as a testementary gift from the estate of Mr. John Gamble.  Mr. Gamble attributed his accomplishments in both politics and journalism to the knowledge he gained from a feat he accomplished as a young boy, reading an entire set of encyclopedias, cover-to-cover, in only two years.  A few of John's accomplishments include becoming an aide and speech writer to the governor of Tennessee while still in college and eventually working at the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington D.C. Later, Gamble moved into journalism, which led him to establish this scholarship and the Gamble Essay Contest.  The scholarship is awarded to the winners of the Gamble middles school essay contest who later decide to attend Walters State Community College.
