Walters State Division of Natural Science
This scholarship was established in 2012 as a means of honoring retired associate professor Earle B. Rowe. Rowe taught biology from 1973-2009. The initial funding for this endowment dates back to 2000. In an effort to help his students study for lab exams, Rowe had the idea to take photos of lab specimens and place them on cd's. Students were then able to study the materials and use them as reference outside the lab. Students credit the discs with better lab grades and a better long-tern retention of materials. These study discs were expanded to other classes, and other colleges began inquiring about the discs. The scholarship is funded on the interest gained on sales of these cd's.
