Buddy and Vicki Johnston
The Doug Johnston Memorial Scholarship was established in loving memory by Buddy and Vicki Johnston in honor of their son, Doug. Although he was an EMT and a firefighter, Doug still wanted a job that would provide action and allow him to use his skills to respond to the unexpected. His ultimate goal in life was to be a paramedic. Doug maintained his job as an EMT and volunteered at Warriors Path Volunteer Fire Department while he was enrolled in Walters State's Paramedic Program. Any other time Doug had was filled with doctor's appointments and lab visits because he was fighting his own battle with cancer. Doug received his paramedic diploma and his paramedic license from the State of Tennessee on the day before his death. Buddy and Vicki established this scholarship so that someone as driven and passionate as their son could have the opportunity to help others. This scholarship recipient is recommended by faculty, selected by committee, and awarded for the second and third semester of study.
